Tips: Journaling Tips
Journaling with Few or No Photos
Sometimes you have a memory you want to scrapbook and few if any photos to go with it. You can still scrapbook this memory. Let the memory itself give you ideas as to how to "decorate" the page, and use journalling to tell the story. Here are a few questions to get you going:
- Describe the location - Where does the memory take place? What does this place look like?Describe any specific features of the location.
- Use all of your senses - What do you see? hear? taste? feel? smell? Using your senses can transport you right back to that time.
- Answer the "W's" - Who is with you and what is their relationship to you? (or who is not there), When did this happen, Why did this happen or why is this memory important to you? What happened? Why was it exciting? Why do you remember it?
- Insight - What was the best thing about this memory? Is there anything you don't like about the memory? What did you learn? Did it affect you and help shape you into who you are today?
Answering these questions will trigger information that you can journal, to help tell the story of this memory. Remember, not every page needs a photo.
Circle Journaling
With the WordArt feature in Microsoft Word, it is easy to put your text into an open circle. Just follow these steps:
- Click on insert at the top of your screen, select picture, and then WordArt
- Select the style you want and click OK
- Select your font and size, whether you want bold or italics, then your text. Click OK.
- A toolbox will appear in the lower left of your screen. Choose the WordArt shape option (staggered ABC) and choose the circle.
- Adjust the circle shape and size by clicking and dragging the white squares surrounding your text. Press the Ctrl button to maintain the shape of your circle. You can also rotate your circle by clicking on the “Free Rotate” icon (arrow surrounding a green dot) and then dragging the green buttons that appear beside your text.
